Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found stabbed to death in a London park.

Yassar Mustakim Moussa, 37, was last heard of on Saturday evening and his body was discovered by a member of the public on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police said he was found by a brook in St James Park and pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the neck.

Investigators said Mr Moussa, who lived in Walthamstow, was last heard from on Saturday evening and are working to establish the circumstances leading up to his death.

Detective chief inspector Larry Smith, who leads the investigation, said: “A man’s life has been brutally taken and his body left in a park. We need to know the movements of Yassar from Saturday, 22 August and my team will be working tirelessly to identify those involved.”

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses who may have noticed any vehicles hanging around the park entrances or any unusual activity in the park since Saturday evening.

“Someone out there knows what happened to Yassar and I’m asking you to do the decent thing and speak up,” DCI Smith added.

Officers are conducting increased patrols in the local area as the investigation continues.

It was the second fatal stabbing in London in recent days.

A teenager was arrested on suspicion of murder after a 20-year-old man was stabbed to death during a fight in Brixton on Thursday.

Anyone with information on the Walthamstow murder is asked to call 101, tweet @MetCC or contact, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
